Stoke Park

When it comes to my version of Bristol, Stoke Park features really prominently for me. I went to UWE which is right beside here and the first time I stumbled across Stoke Park I genuinely thought I was trespassing. It was before recent landscaping works took place so the woods were wilder. We guessed our way through before finding a clearing, then sat and had a picnic beside the obelisk watching the world go by. Fast forward 7 years and we ended up buying a house really close to land that leads to this park, and now it's our favourite place to bike ride, walk and appreciate the Bristol we know and love. Stoke Park is literally miles of inner city countryside and woodland, and it's always a pinch me moment when we head out with the dog and the bikes and don't have to cross a road despite hours of walking.. Who gets to say that whilst living in a city!? 

Some people live their whole lives in Bristol without ever stepping foot in Stoke Park, despite driving past the yellow Dower House whilst entering or leaving Bristol via the M32. Despite being so prominent, it's still a bit of a hidden gem, but those who do know of it, know how incredible a place it is. 

This is a print from an original mixed media piece, with lots of blues, greens and pinks, in washes of watercolour and flashes of pencil. It goes great with the rest of my 'half a lifetime' collection.
