Environmental Commitment
Our environmental commitment
I'm a one-person artist working from my home studio in Bristol, so I don't have a huge sustainability programme or perfect solutions for everything. But I believe lots of small decisions add up, and I try to make thoughtful choices wherever I can.
How I work
Every piece is drawn by hand in my home studio, and I try to keep waste to a minimum throughout the process.
- My home is powered by Octopus Energy.
- I reuse paper scraps for sketching, testing colours and packing wherever I can.
- I print and pack orders from home, avoiding unnecessary journeys between suppliers and a separate workspace.
Packaging
I want your artwork to arrive safely without creating more waste than it needs to.
- I use cardboard mailers and paper packaging wherever possible, choosing recyclable options where I can.
- To protect artwork from damp and dust in transit, I use a single protective plastic sleeve. It's currently the best balance I've found between protecting your artwork and keeping packaging to a minimum.
- I don't currently receive excess packaging from suppliers to reuse, so I focus on choosing packaging that you can reuse or recycle.
Getting your order to you
Whenever I can, I cycle to my local Post Office to send orders rather than driving. I also hand-deliver local orders where possible, helping to keep those journeys to a minimum.
How you can help
I'd love my packaging to have a second life.
- Reuse or recycle your cardboard mailer wherever possible.
- The backing card inside is ideal for protecting photographs, storing children's artwork or using in craft projects.
- Tissue paper and other paper packaging can often be reused for gift wrapping or recycled, depending on your local recycling guidelines.
Beyond the studio
Sustainability isn't just something I think about while packing orders. As a family, we regularly litter-pick on Purdown, the green space behind our home in Bristol, and pick up loose litter whenever we're out and about. It's become a bit of a family habit, although it's not always the easiest when the kids suddenly need to wash their hands and there's no sink in sight! It's one of the small ways we try to look after the places we live in and enjoy.
Giving back to nature
I believe in doing what I can, both in my studio and beyond it.
I donate £20 every month to TreeSisters, supporting their work around tropical forest restoration, and a further £20 a month to Avon Wildlife Trust, supporting wildlife and nature conservation closer to home. That's £40 a month dedicated to environmental causes, alongside the small, everyday choices I make in my studio and as a family.
As my business grows, I'd love to build environmental giving into the business itself, with the aim of donating a proportion of sales or revenue to environmental causes. For now, I'm focusing on growing my small business thoughtfully, reducing waste where I can and supporting the natural world in ways that feel achievable and meaningful.
Always improving
I'm always looking for better ways to reduce waste and improve my packaging without compromising the quality or protection of the artwork. As my business grows, I'll keep reviewing my materials and making changes wherever I can.
