In 2019 the workers at Harland and Wolff staged a protest to save the shipyard, their jobs and preserve the beating heart of Belfast. It's a place I have drawn for over 20 years and it's close to my heart, as my Great Grandfather worked as a riveter there and I guess we all know someone who once worked there one time or another. The cranes themselves are a reminder of home, boy have they seen some sights over the years..
This print is a nod to the workers, to the city and to the iconic cranes that dominate the skyline. Bright yellows, inky indigo, flashes of bright blue. The workers are silhouettes in front of a lone Harland & Wolff crane and bright yellow container, and of course in front of the banner that made headlines at the time.
