Purdown is probably my favourite place in Bristol, and yet most people who visit Bristol will never step foot there. I refer to it as my happy place, somewhere I go when I need to remind myself how lucky I am to live where I live. In the summer it's a quick escape away from the noise; a meadow with tall grass and flowers, full of butterflies, grasshoppers and bees. Buzzards and woodpeckers fly overhead, foxes play and you can often see deer in the morning mist. And it's also a perfect spot to watch the balloons during the annual balloon fiesta. So many memories up here, it really is a hidden gem that I feel fiercely protective about.. so this is a special one.
This is a print from an original mixed media piece, depicting the meadow during August when the green grass has yellowed and the balloons are rising from south Bristol during the fiesta. It has lots of yellow, oranges and blues, in washes of watercolour and lots of pencil. It goes great with the rest of my 'half a lifetime' collection.
